Helene Pinti

Helene Pinti is a true unsung hero. For over 30 years, she has been a dedicated advocate for fairness, justice, equality, and respect for her fellow bus drivers as a member of OAPSE Local 110. Throughout her tenure, she served as a union steward and provided invaluable guidance to the negotiation team. Though she was not welcomed onto the team itself, she remained steadfast in her commitment in trying to ensure equity within the contracts for the Local 110 bus drivers that had long been neglected by the union leadership.

Helene relentlessly championed strong union leadership, often facing setbacks in her efforts to challenge a local president who had held office for over 35 years. Despite numerous attempts to bring about change, the road ahead seemed insurmountable, and frustration set in as progress remained elusive. Yet, just as she was ready to step away from the fight, an unexpected opportunity reignited her determination. Summoning her courage, Helene organized a petition to remove the long-standing president who had disregarded the concerns of transportation workers for years. She filed charges, fought tirelessly, and was ultimately vindicated-securing a victory on behalf of all bus drivers in Local 110. Determined to continue her advocacy, she ran for Vice President of OAPSE Local 110. Though the election was challenged, she won by an overwhelming margin, making history as the first school bus driver to serve as a Local 110 officer.

Helene Pinti's unwavering dedication to fairness, equality, and respect has left an indelible mark on her union and her colleagues. Her courage and perseverance exemplify the spirit of true leadership, making her a deserving and honorable hero of OAPSE Local 110.

Jimmie Dawson

Jimmie Dawson is a shining example of dedication, compassion, and excellence. With 33 years of service at Willoughby-Eastlake/Petermann and 30 years driving for the City of Willoughby's summer recreation program, Jimmie has consistently gone above and beyond in everything she does.

Known for her kindness, reliability, and tireless work ethic, Jimmie has been a role model and source of support for countless colleagues. She is always ready to lend a helping hand or track down an answer, making her an invaluable part of her team. Over the years, she has served as both President and Secretary of her local union and led the holiday charity committee, which collected and distributed donations throughout the community to help those in need.

Jimmie also serves as an On-Board Instructor (OBI) for the school district and has successfully trained hundreds of individuals to obtain their licenses. Her aide, Lisha, describes her as fun, caring, and now one of her closest friends-though she admits she was initially intimidated by Jimmie's commanding presence.

Beyond her professional achievements, Jimmie is deeply committed to her family and community. She played an active role in the Relay for Life team Wings on Wheels, helping to raise thousands of dollars for cancer research. She has also been instrumental in the CLUE women's group, offering her time and energy to support its mission.

There is hardly a task, committee, union role, or person that Jimmie hasn't positively impacted over the years. Her dedication, generosity, and unwavering spirit have left a lasting impression on everyone around her. Words will never fully express the gratitude owed to her for her incredible contributions.

Louann Palmiero

Louann Palmiero began her career with Parma City Schools in 2001 as a noon monitor, later becoming a general monitor. Over the years, she has served in elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the district. She currently holds the position of Clinic Monitor at Valley Forge High School, where she has become an essential member of the school community.

Throughout her 24 years of dedicated service to students, Louann has been an active and engaged member of OAPSE Local 160. A constant presence at union meetings, she brings levity and positivity through her quick wit and warm personality. Always willing to lend a hand, Louann volunteers for any task needed-whether it's conducting audits, helping coordinate the end-of-year picnic, or leading the Nominating Committee and overseeing the Installation of Officers.

Louann's commitment goes beyond expectations. At one meeting, when concerns were raised about the lack of gloves for staff, she immediately contacted the District's Head Nurse and ensured the necessary supplies were provided to special education assistants. She has also taken initiative to assist other buildings in acquiring essential supplies for their students.

Louann is beloved by all-students, colleagues, building administrators, and custodial staff alike. Her care, leadership, and even her tradition of offering chocolate to custodians in exchange for a helping hand, make her a treasured part of the school community.

Parma City Schools is fortunate to have Louann Palmiero. Our union is stronger because of her, and OAPSE Local #160 is better thanks to her dedication, kindness, and unwavering support.

Michelle Werner

Medina City Schools

I, James Wright, President of Local 305 Medina City Schools would like to submit the following for the Unsung Hero Award. I am presenting Michelle Werner, OAPSE 305 and a long-standing member since December 1997. To back up for a minute, I have been the Local President for the last four years, Secretary three years before that, and a member for the last 8.5 years. I wanted to share that

information to help you understand how far back I have observed Michelle's dedication to not only OAPSE Local 305, but to OAPSE in its entirety as well. Michelle has been the vice president of OAPSE 305 for over 12 years now. During this time, she has been the most dedicated member that I have witnessed so far. One could say that without her dedication our local would be very dysfunctional, or maybe even nonexistent. Michelle has always been my strongest recruiter, supporter, leader, and most important a role model to myself being the best President I can to Local 305. I realize that this was supposed to be 50 words or less, but I'm not the best with instructions, but most important Michelle is so much more than just 50 words. This year Michelle retires from our school district, but I know she is one of this district, and State OAPSE can rely on it to help with future conferences.

Thank You,

James Wright

OAPSE Local 305 President
